In an effort to make this blog more interactive, I'm starting the Daily Question so that you, my readers, will have more chance to interact.
Today's question: Is it easy to read white font on a dark background? What are your thoughts? If you have blogs of your own, what color fonts and backgrounds do you use?
Hi Trev,
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping my my blog earlier. In follow up to your question, the issue was just on the one page with that comment. I did not have that issue when I have made comments before.
I like your question above and I think you can have white font on a light background and have it show fine, it just depends on the white tone font color you choose. It worked out on my blogsite better than having black text. But then in some instance, the light text on the light background just washes each other out.
Checking preview is the best way I have found to find the best fit for your site.
:)
see like now my comment above is in white text on a light background and I can see it fine. Just that one page for some reason.
ReplyDeleteHey Trev!
ReplyDeleteThanks for checking out my blog! I've just followed yours as well. I would say that white text on a black background can be difficult to read at times. But I sometimes have no problem reading it. I think it also depends on factors such as the font and font size.
Happy reading!
Kelsey
Hi Trev,
ReplyDeleteEventhough my blog (www.emanuelcachia.blogspot.com) is also white text on black background, I prefer to read black text on white background.
I'm sure I read somewhere that dark text on a light background strains your eyes less...

I like the white on black effect. I don't like the colour combination you've got for the comments section, though (white on grey) - it's difficult.
ReplyDeleteHi To answer your question. White on grey, definitely a no-no. Too difficult to read. And white on black... personally, I find it hard on the eyes. But then I'm as blind as a bat! On another note... I loved your Wuthering Heights and Werewolves chapter. Your command of the 'ye olde English' is wonderful and the characters are great. I would love to read more.

Hi Trev, Thanks for the follow. As you know, my blog, www.literary-magic.com, is white font on black. I chose it in keeping with my "magic" theme, but from my many years in Marketing Communications, I know that as a standard white on black, also known as reverse type, is considered not as readable as black on white. I agree with your other commenters regarding your comments section. white on gray is definitely difficult to read. Contrast! Contrast is key.
ReplyDeleteWow, I have to admit, Trev, before I even read the question, I thought, what's up with the white on black? The only reason why I didn't immediately leave the page is because there was not a lot to read in your post. Had it been a long one, I wouldn't have stayed. I vote against white on black backgrounds. Actually, I'm not a fan of light text on any dark background as a rule.
ReplyDeleteAs for the white on gray? I could barely see it. All websites should think of the visitor. Don't make it hard for people or they will leave and are not likely to return.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for your input everyone :) I've made some changes and gone with a more minimalist black on white design. Happy Friday :D
