Aristotle: A Short Biography

Aristotle is one of the greatest intellectual figures in Western history. His philosophic thought became the foundation for both medieval European Christian Scholasticism and medieval Islamic philosophy.

Born in Stageira, Chaldice in 384BCE, Aristotle migrated to Athens after the death of his father in 367 BCE and joined the academy of Plato.

Aristotle left Plato's academy after the death of the latter in 348 BCE. He eventually was summoned to Macedonia to tutor the future Alexander the Great.

After tutoring Alexander, Aristotle founded his own academy, the Lyceum. He gathered a significant library and students there.  Aristotle died in 322 BCE.
