Review: Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2)Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In Catching Fire Katniss must again enter the Hunger Games arena and continue to pretend her star-crossed love affair with Peeta. They have become the faces of rebellion and the capital is angry.

The Good: Catching Fire is more of the fast-paced, action oriented storytelling that fans of The Hunger Games crave. There are new characters to meet, new challenges for Katniss Everdeen to overcome and more dangers from the ominous capital. Katniss herself has become more sophisticated. She's growing up and her growth is fun to watch. Catching Fire ends with one heck of a cliffhanger.

The Bad: There is something lacking in the developing love triangle. While Katniss must pretend to love one beau while brooding over another, there is little distinction between the two.

The Bottom Line: If you enjoyed The Hunger Games you won't be disappointed with Catching Fire. The middle installments of some trilogies are a let down, but Catching Fire builds the trilogy and advances it with more enjoyable, fast-paced storytelling.

  1. I LOVED reading Hunger Games (and seeing the movie), and have just started Catching Fire - can't wait to see how it develops, and very glad to hear it is another fast-paced read.
