As part of the Nobel Prize Laureate challenge, I will be posting on Theodor Mommsen's
The History of Rome (
Römische Geschichte), beginning with Volume I: The Period Anterior to the Abolition of the Monarchy. The work in its entirety can be downloaded from Project Gutenberg here. Or if you prefer you can find a physical copy through Amazon, and maybe through your library. On awarding the Nobel Prize, the Nobel committee had this to say about Mommsen: "the greatest living master of the art of historical writing, with special reference to his monumental work, A History of Rome." Let's see if we agree!
Best,
Trev
